Working with Gayla on our kitchen renovation was an absolute joy and we could not be happier with the result. She was the first designer with whom we met and her passion and ideas were so apparent that we agreed it was not necessary to meet with any other designers. After agreeing to move forward, we met several times to fine tune the scope of the project in terms of objectives, budget and timing. She provided us with a detailed project plan so that all of the project’s steps were understood. Scope creep and unexpected costs are going to arise in most large projects, but we feel that the thoroughness of Gayla’s project plan resulted in a minimal amount of change orders.
As Gayla began her designing magic, we met in-person at least once a week and frequently spoke on the phone to discuss style options and view online pictures. Only after she was confident that she fully understood our style and vision did Gayla conjure up several layouts for us to consider. She reviewed the positives and negatives of each option and was open to make adjustments based on our feedback.
With the layout finalized, it was time to begin the overwhelming task of choosing cabinets, appliances, hardware, lighting, cabinet pulls, and backsplashes. Together, we visited many stores—in some cases multiple times—and it was clear that Gayla’s close relationships with the stores facilitated fantastic customer service and preferred pricing. We struggled finding a stock light fixture and a countertop for one of our islands, so we worked with two artisans to build custom products that would truly make our kitchen unique.
Gayla remained engaged throughout construction. She was frequently onsite as materials were delivered and was not shy to return anything that was less than perfect. She closely monitored every step of the construction and you could almost always find her with a tape measure in her hand verifying the precision of every installation.
