These down-sizing townhouse owners wanted a contemporary kitchen that included ample storage, ample counter space, a hidden bar area, room for a breakfast table, and if possible, an opportunity to display their art glass collection. We used the short wall to house the tall necessities--refrigerator and pantry--plus an appliance garage in the corner. By extending a combination of shallow and full depth cabinetry into the breakfast room space, we were able to greatly increase storage while fulfilling the bar and display items on the wish list.
The color palette was finalized after exploring many more neutral combinations that simply did not enhance the art glass or the homeowners traditional oriental rugs. The stainless steel bar, open shelving and wall cabinets create an L-shaped run that visually interlocks with the blue tall and base run.
