When it came time to renovate the kitchen in their Victorian house condo, the owners wanted to go clean and crisp, veering away from the existing "period" look while still blending with the period architecture. The black and white color scheme was chosen as a nod to an old-time checkerboard linoleum floor, and the antique ceiling fixtures were chosen to soften the contemporary tone.
Even though condo construction restrictions and budget concerns required maintaining the positions of appliances and sinks, we were able to create a straight-lined galley design that fits the narrow space. The long island provides work space for multiple cooks, and has seating on both ends to accommodate large family gatherings.
